why i show rabbits

Ive raised/showed nearly every type of livestock out there, and so you may wonder why rabbits??

well there are many reasons, but for me one of the acutal deciding factors was the costs involved. both monatarily and time and space.

rabbits take up far less space than any other species (even chickens- when they are kept for show that is). i can have a barn that is 12x24 and that will easily house a herd of quality show animals with room to spare.

their monatary costs are far less than most any other as well, since their relative upkeep is cheaper than any other. (ok so i do spend more on my rabbits than my horse, but there is only 1 of her and about 50 of them). when i take them to shows, i can get them in my car. ive fit as many as 20 carrier holes in a VW rabbit before!

the cost per entry is WAY less than any large animal livestock, or even dogs for that matter. their is no expensive tack or grooming equipment (rabbits are shown ala' carte!)

i can go dressed in my PJ's if i want to. no fancy dress shirts or suit jackets. even with cattle you still need to be nicely groomed and presentable (not that this is a bad thing, but i dont HAVE to and if i dont it wont affect the placement of my animals). i can show with the confidence that a rabbit wont win over mine just because of who owns it.

and what KEEPS me showing rabbits and not something else. is BY FAR the wonderful friends i have. i consider my rabbit family some of the greatest people i know.
