tricolor rex?

Postby kyylik » Sat Jul 10, 2010 1:11 am

Hi, I am a bit confused as I never seen this before. I have rex rabbits what week ago I thought that he is broken agouti/castor, but now I can see clearely that he have 3 colors... black, white and castor/agouti. This is so weird, how on earth you call that color? I now that it is not showable but still want to know the color... Any ideas?

Unfortunately dont have photo just yet. But watching him yesterday, his black dots are faiding into castor color, but they are definitely there. Week ago they were very good to see.

Finally I got time to take photos of this one.

As you can see dark spots on his back, they are black, not castor or darker castor color. And on ears you can see dark spots in as well.

looks like a castor tri-color - this happens when the genotype is A-B-C-D-Eej instead of A-B-C-D-ej- for a 'normal' harlequin/tri. Sometimes the ej 'shows' through the 'E' and sometimes it doesn't. Most often you can see the spotting/stripes as a kit, and not nearly as much as an adult when it's Eej.

so the genotype would be A-B-C-DdEej on him then. He can produce good tri-colors - it's actually best to use agouti vs. reds with your tri's which a lot of people use - because you will have not have a chance of torted tri's if you use all Eej or ejej animals.

Ok, that was good to know and I will keep that in mind. As I have torted tris as well. Didnt know that before and used torted male on tri female...Dont have other tri male what could use on that tri female. And many on that litter have torted nose markings. As I understood that is disqualification fale?
Now got to start working with those what I have to produce nice ones.
