american fuzzy lop

the american fuzzy lop, is the 2nd smallest lop breed. they are a breed apart from the other lops because they are also a wooled breed! they are much more than just a holland lop with wool! they are a bit bigger, they are posed differently, and have a different headset. of course with the wool their points are distributed differently.

French lop

a large commercial type animal. most aptly described as MASSIVE! they range from around 11 to about 14 pounds. they have lots of different colors, both solid and broken. most have a very gentle disposition and make good pets esp for small children, since the rabbits are so mellow.

Holland Lop

the holland lop is the smallest of the lop breeds. they are properly posed semi upright, and have a high head set. they are most common in tort. but come in many different colors in both broken and solid. they are well known for their beautiful bulldog style heads. they tend to be naturally high strung, and very active little creatures. with tons of personality and character.

Mini Lop

Mini Lops are the 3rd smallest lop breed, original stock came from Germany and was refered to as the Klein Widder until the developer realized this name didn't exactly roll off the tongue in the Americas. In essence it is a miniature version of the French Lop, with two distinct body types: The Classic/Western type (a little longer in body, more massive) and the Modern/Eastern type (very short bodied, as wide as they are long as they are deep for the most part). In recent years in the west, the two types are bleeding into one as rabbits from the East are joining the Western bloodlines. On the show table, the winning senior animals can weigh anywhere from 5-6.5lbs on average. The more massive-looking the animal, the more it is revered. Recently, the male "ideal weight" was increased to 6lbs, which is a good thing as the majority of the winning males were definately not under that weight! The males should have blocky heads, and the does should have slightly more refined heads. Mini Lops like to eat and as they age in their senior years (6 months+), be sure not to over feed them. There should be no leftover food each day and they should be at the door begging. A heaping 1/2 cup should be fine for most Minis, or 3/4 cup for Minis over 6.5lbs. Their coat should be thick and soft, with a rollback quality. For those that aren't afraid of colour, Mini Lops are a great breed! They are accepted under almost all the colours under the sun, and carry genetic codes that would scare Darwin to figure out today! If you like figuring genetics, this is the breed for you. If you just like pretty colours, this is also the breed for you! Mini Lops also make great pets! They have docile temperments, beautiful lopped ears, and great personalities. They are about the size of a small cat! They have claimed many followers around the ARBA circle. In Europe, the Holland Lop is their version of the Miniature Lop. The Mini Lop we know today doesn't quite have an equivalent across the pond.

satins

there are 3 breeds recognized by the american rabbit breeders assoc with satinized coats. the satin angora, the mini satin and the satin.

the hair shaft of a satin coat is finer than most normal furred animals. it also has a translucent outer shell which refracts the light, giving them their unique sheen!

mini satin

the mini satin is a relatively new breed. they are a much more than just a smaller version of their larger parents.

they average about 4 1/4 pounds. they are a dwarf breed and as such tend to have a fuller head and shorter ears. their body type is a small yet meaty animal. much like a florida white.

they are currently only recognized in white. though there are many different varieties available. and numerous certificates of development pending.

satin angora

the satin angora is usually more correctly lumped in with the angora breeds. however since it does posses the satin mutation we will make mention of it here!

to read more check the angora section. (pending)

the satin

the satin is a commercial breed, with 11 recognized varieties. they are one of only 3 breeds with the unique sheen that makes them so striking. as adults they usually weigh between 8 1/2 and 10 pounds. they are a good choice for meat. and produce very well and are good mothers. they are also a great breed to raise to produce beautiful furs.

the satin is recognized in the following beautiful varieties: black, blue, broken, californian, chinchilla, chocolate, copper, otter, red, siamese, and white.  The otter group is recognized in black, blue, chocolate, and lilac.
