End of the Beginning!

It's that time of a young rabbit breeders' "career": I've become a young adult and life is calling, so for a time I won't be breeding or showing rabbits. Unlike most, I am not selling my supplies, as I have witnessed friends sell out only to get back in and pay for their equipment all over again!

But I am selling most of my rabbits, the ones I have left being the sweetest of the bunch or my favorite breeding does/bucks.

It is a bittersweet time. I had, at most, 25 rabbits at one time. Now I have 8. There is a lot less work, the rabbits get more time with me, and I enjoy being in an uncluttered barn! However, I miss the babies. Watching them develop at super fast speeds, figuring out the world, watching their bodies and minds develop... it was one of my favorite things to witness. On the plus side, I also don't have to witness the sad side of having baby rabbits around, the stillborns or the faders, they broke my heart everytime. However, their counterparts made it worth it to continue breeding.

Reboot Part 2: The Bunny Sitter is Less than Ideal

I found out today the bunny & house sitter will be a guy that knows next to nothing about rabbits.

Great.

This is going to mean a LOT of post its, bright colours, and signs all over my barn.
And to be on the safe side...
"NO TREATS"
"NO VISITORS"
"NO PETTING"
"NO EXTRA FOOD"

And... a return of a sign I printed for shows:
"Please do not feed fingers to rabbits!"

Gaaaah...

--Jenn

The Slow Reboot

(I'm going to be testing HTML while doing this blog, so please excuse any weird letters)

I haven't been active in the rabbit world for over a year, trying to force myself out of it... not too efficiently, I might add. I was losing my interest, without goals. I needed specific goals instead of just following the herd! So I looked at my animals... I had been barely trying to get BEWs. And then I thought... whatever happened to creating BEWs? That is what I shall doe! Chocolates and BEWs!

My doe Queenie is due soon. Queenie (AKA Rah's Queen Elizabeth II, her dam being nicknamed Elizabeth by a barn-helper... and Queenie was her dams twin likeness sooo... yeah :D) was bred before I went on vacation, on August 2nd. When I got back on August 15th, I palpated 3-4 kits.

This is Queenie's first litter. Queenie is very near and dear to my heart, I am hoping all goes well.
She has gotten a bit antsy, we're now in Week 3 of pregnancy. She's tipping over his crock for the first time and drinking more. She won't come up for petting as much as usual. It's stressful for me and her!

I found out too late that our plans changed for dropping my brother off at University for the fall. Before, we would be back in the afternoon of the 1st. Now, it's the 2nd. Her Day 30 is Sept 1st, her Day 31 is Sept 2nd... so I'm worried I won't be here incase something happens. Queenie is a first time doe.
My nearest trusted rabbit friend lives 20 minutes away and works fulltime. The best I can do is prep a nestbox before I go and leave it all in the hands of someone that only knows how to feed and water rabbits... very stressful!!

On another note, I've almost completed my Fall Cleaning... early! I just have to pressure wash my nestboxes, show carriers, and two stackers (& the floor beneath them & the walls behinds them). Then I'm DONE bwahaha!!

And yeah. That only leaves me with raking the roof of the pine needles, but I don't REALLY need to do that, do I? Noo.. it's enough that I already cleaned the 5'x3' sliding glass window? haha :D
Why did I paint the walls white again? I know they bounce light better, but MAN. Does anyone know how badly urine stains white walls? Bleach isn't working! What works better than bleach? Maybe vinegar???

 --Jenn of Rah Rabbitry

TEST!!

 a >: p
